Overview
Kennedy’s first public appointment after Veracyte was a board seat. On April 26, 2023 Acuamark Diagnostics announced that it had appointed Giulia Kennedy, Ph.D., former Chief Scientific and Chief Medical Officer of Veracyte, to its board of directors.1 The trade press recorded the appointment the same way.2
The role
Acuamark describes its approach as proprietary, high-throughput qPCR technology designed to provide both highly sensitive and highly specific results for early-stage cancers at scale, addressing what it calls the classic trade-off in blood-based diagnostics.1 It is a different modality from the RNA-based classifiers of Kennedy’s Veracyte years, but the same problem: turning a molecular signal into a result a clinician can act on, and proving it.
The announcement set out why the company wanted her: “a prolific research, product and clinical development executive with more than 20 years of experience propelling novel diagnostic technologies from early-phase research to commercialization and adoption”, with more than 50 peer-reviewed articles and more than 20 patents.1
In sequence
The appointment came four months after her December 2022 departure from Veracyte and a year before PinkDx, the company she co-founded, launched publicly. Her later advisory role at Wisdom Bioscience is recorded in its own chapter.
